Affordability remains high despite willingness of Alberta buyers to compete

A new report from BMO is shedding some light on the home-buying habits of Canadians, specifically the willingness of buyers to engage in a bidding war.

A new report from BMO is shedding some light on the home-buying habits of Canadians, specifically the willingness of buyers to engage in a bidding war.

According to the BMO Home Buying Report, the majority of Canadians (75 per cent) are unwilling to enter a bidding war when making an offer on a home. Of those prepared to compete, half would pay up to 110 per cent of the asking price, while a quarter would be willing to bid up to 120 per cent.

Broken down by region, the survey revealed Albertans (25%) were more likely to enter into a a bidding war than the average Canadian (22%). Albertans however were less likely to engage in such practices than those living in Ontario (28%) and Manitoba/Saskatchewan (32%).
